At Amnicola Marsh Again

The water level in the marsh is declining again. Last week, I encountered this box turtle with red eyes which indicate he is male. him. I didn’t check the plastron for the indentation that would confirm this conclusion because my need to know seemed less crucial than limiting my disturbance of the creature. Two additional photos of the turtle appear at the end of this week’s installment.

The low water has enticed the Great egrets to remain. The isolated shallow holes trap the fish, frogs, and other animals they dine upon. The Egrets will stay here so long as they have easy hunting.
