The Blood Moon approaches totality. I drew this from memory of what I saw during the lunar eclipse in March 2025. The white at the top was a surprise to me. I expected a crescent on one side, but a review of photographs from reliable sources shows a white spot near the pole. It isn’t ice, but a bit of the full moon peeking above the Earth’s shadow.
I recently told a group I had seen the Blood Moon in March. Their leader said the full moon in March is called the Worm Moon. That is true, but any eclipsed moon is also a Blood Moon. The attached post at the end includes my report on my viewing of the total Lunar Eclipse.
The attachment is a repost of my most popular Substack edition thus far, but first, a look at International Nature Journaling Week. This week is a perfect time to combine a love of drawing, writing, and spending time in nature. For those who already do so, this is a time to celebrate that love.
I attended a Nature Journaling workshop in 2024 and nearly left the room when I learned I would be drawing. I expected to be writing. After learning I could draw, I created the cover image for my book, It’s Just a Phase. I told that story on Substack, and have been drawing since then.
Several videos about International Nature Journaling Week are readily available on YouTube. In Conversations with Nature, you can see nature journalers from around the globe. This website is also a valuable resource with ideas for Nature Journals.
John Muir Laws, author of The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling, is also an excellent resource. His Nature Journal Connection videos are a good place to start, and his website has some instructional videos for nature drawing.
The following repost of my most popular Substack post thus far includes a report on the Total Lunar Eclipse, some haiku, and two short surreal stories.
