Later this year, naturalists from across the region will gather for the annual Trails and Trilliums festival at Beersheba Springs. Tennessee. The lineup of activities promises an exciting adventure for those who attend.
The Friends of South Cumberland State Park also serve as the friends group for Savage Gulf State Park, a natural area formerly included in South Cumberland State Park, until the State of Tennessee made Savage Gulf a separate park.
Savage Gulf State has entrances at the Savage Gulf Ranger Station, Stone Door Ranger Station, Greeter Falls Trailhead, and West Collins. It includes several backcountry campgrounds and miles of trails. Savage Gulf (tn.gov).
State Naturalist Mack Prichard, now deceased, was instrumental in setting aside the Savage Gulf Natural Area, as was conservationist Herman Baggenstoss. I took the following images in the stone door portion of Savage Gulf.
